Treatment for Rosacea
Out of sight, out of mind? If that's your approach to treating your rosacea, think again. Rosacea is a chronic condition, so ongoing care is a must. It is unclear exactly how and when rosacea progresses. What we do know is that symptoms of rosacea can progress from mild to moderate to severe over time. For some people, the first sign of rosacea may be mild blushing, which progresses into scattered bumps, but this may progress to permanent changes in the skin if left untreated. Therefore, early diagnosis and treatment are recommended.
Fortunately, it's never too late to start treatment.
- Talk to your doctor: Discuss which treatment might be right for you.
- Manage your triggers. Food, weather and stress can all lead to rosacea flare-ups. Everyone has different triggers, so be aware of yours and adjust your life accordingly.
- Adopt a skin care regimen. Treat your skin with care by using a soap-free, alcohol-free cleanser and blotting skin dry with a soft cotton towel. Protect yourself with a daily broad-spectrum sunscreen, and limit irritation by using fragrance-free lotions and makeup.
- Treat the surface. MetroGel® 1% is a great option to discuss with your doctor. MetroGel® 1% is a topical treatment that works to control rosacea by helping to reduce inflammatory lesions for healthier skin.
- Treat from the inside. Talk to your doctor to see if oral therapy is the right option for you. Oracea® is the first and only FDA-approved oral therapy for rosacea. Since it works by controlling inflammation—not killing bacteria—no evidence of antibiotic resistance has been demonstrated.
Don't suffer in silence. Contact your dermatologist, or use the Find a Dermatologist tool, and start empowering yourself and managing your condition.
